New Torana

Recommended Posts

HOpe this isn't a repost... for those who are disappointed with the non-turboness of the new tyota/urabus. I was checking out a wheels magazine this morning and they had phrases like "package protected to allow for v6's and v8's", like the old torana was. I would love a small rwd couple with a v6, but the only thing I can think of is a bmw 135i and they're still at least 50k :(

Anyway it's a small coupe, rwd, hopefully light and they are looking at using a 2L turbo and we haven't seen one of those for a long time. Post up any new articles/pics if you spot them.

I don't think many liked the look of the ft86/brz when they first saw them so I'm expecting hate.

Looks too bulky for a small car, bonnet height, body lines etc make it look like a brick with rounded edges. I'd love it if it was a Torana with a 2L turbo though, bogan heads would explode everywhere.

I wonder what the bogans thought of the ford escort cosworth then?

If you squint, the rear quarter looks like an r32/s13 sil. I agree with you though, it's a bit of a cock mobile.

It'd be interesting to see it next to the current Camaro to gauge the size. I'm guessing GM is too cash strapped to go and design another RWD platform. Like most nameplate resurrections a new model Torana is only going to be "mid size" under today's measures, nothing like the size of the original.

I was a fan of that 2004 version.

That pink prototype was to test the waters for the VE Commo, have a look at how many similar design ideas the two share. Smart marketing to call it a Torana prototype when it was the VE prototype.

Pretty much every new concept that GM pumps out gets called "The Next Torana".

Lets face it. The Torana's dead. It was never a good car to start with. GM in Detroit tried to kill it off in the mid-70's, to express the Opel Senator/Rekord (VB Commodore) through.

Holden said it's not a Torana, Wheels just shopped up the Chevy concept and put it on the cover and everyone jumped on it without reading. Must of been a slow month for car news.

I think the car is more the focus, not what they call it...

If Holden put that thing into production as the new torona I can guarantee that I will be ringing Holden about it. I will not be a happy chappy.
