Someone who gets sick of Asian food?

My missus cooks Asian food 6 out 7 nights a week, and i love it all, but my missus knows that to keep me sane she needs to cook either western/indian/mexican/italian at least 1 night a week.

Same goes when we went to Thailand. One night i had to get a pizza lol.

Thaiand is now officially payed out, 3rd time here but havnt been for maybe 4 years. just came from koh tao its beautiful and all but oh my god if i speak to one more dive master wanker there im gonna hang myself. the diving is mega shit. like yeah cool coral and a fish floating around, but i only saw one shark after 4 dives. and i saw it snorkeling! now im over in pangyang night life is too repetative, still get wasted and on the mushies which went to some next level shit last night but i dunno, full moon party in a week just gonna float around til that happens. I guess when your 19 or 20 and hant been exposed to it all before it has a differnt appeal but i must be getting sour in my old age. Kohpangyang is so over developed, glass fronted windows, heavy construction going up in the main streets, next year theyll be an airport and a mcdonalds guarenteed!

im gonna travel asia again next year but i wont be coming back here unless im in a group of mates. In closing i will say that if i did it with a partner i wouldnt be staying in the shit holes i do and id be living the highlife but to me, thats no fun. dont let my cynicism throw you, expieriance it for yourself and take from it what you will.

happy travels

that sucks for koh phangan. i was there 2 years ago and liked that it was less developed, i stayed about 20min scooter ride away from haad rin which was quiet but still good fun at the resort. now seems like the money is pouring in and going to ruin the vibe of the place and what really drew people there in the first place. same is happening to my favourite place in the world, Boracay. They're planning to build a big casino and resort there and everytime i go back a new place is being built right near the beach cluttering the views

You don't go to Koh Samui to party. That's just stupid. You go to Samui for a romantic getaway with your missus, plus the odd snorkelling and kayaking.

learn to barter, and look for the drink specials.

Same prices as Phuket.

It was only Thai's involved, i can only assume it was a drug deal gone wrong or an old debt being settled. Just lucky it wasnt the night before at full moon. This English lad who i was travelling with picked the guy who got 6 times up and took him to the clinic a few doors down and he recons the nurse just stood there looking, had no idea what to do and the thai kid ended up dieing in his arms. Pretty serious shit but old mate took it well.

Dude, really? I'm seasoned, i know what im doing. Its not like your gonna go into subway and offer 100 baht for a foot long. Your not gonna go to green mango and say " you know, i dont feel like paying 90 baht for this beer, im gonna give you 35.", you have to pay certain prices. Accomodation, clothes, transport and miscellaneous items are where bargaining comes in. Theres a huge differnece between barter and traveling smart. I bought a foam esky and a slab of leon or singha's every day, find the local restraunt for 40 baht meals and stayed in bungalows that you need your yellow fever immunisation card just to get into while on the islands, but koh samui has just been ruined.

You are right though, i wont be going back to thailand unless its a romantic vacation or to do my dive master cheap on koh tao. Apparently the resorts on samui are 5 star at less then 50 beans a night and with $450 return tickets that is one cheap holiday.

Im heading over from the 10th June till the 24th.

Im spending 6 nights in Bangkok though.

The first night is when we land at like 11:30 so that will just be sleeping.

What do people suggest I do while in Bangkok as usually I would just be hitting up the islands/water straight off the bat and to be honest 5 days in a 'city' isn't really where its at for me but the trip was organised by a bird im seeing at a super cheap rate and the Hotel is wikkid and we'll spend most of the time f**king and shopping anyways.

What do people suggest we do in Bangkok itself, or for day trips in/around the area.

About a year ago I read every page in this thread, but that was quite a while ago and lots of this stuff is in regards to the islands.

So city stuff? :)

if its your first time there, always remember (especially around nana plaza lol), that ladyboys are free to hang outside girly bars and grab your dick while you walk past but they aren't allowed inside the clubs. Don't show interest til you're inside. Same with Soi Cowboy

1. Make sure you download tom tom Thailand app for iphone , very handy and will save you from getting ripped off by taxi drivers

2. If you rent any equipment like jet ski's scooters or atvs, take photos of all previous damage or you might find yourself paying 20000 baht for damage you didn't cause.

3. Exchange a small amount of money at Australian airport , only enough for taxi when you arrive in Thailand , exchange rate is much better in Thailand

4. Don't start shit with gatoi's( ladyboys) , I seen a big pommy dude get knocked out with one kick to the head , 10 mins later he was still out cold.

5. Don't buy any drugs off Thai locals on any of phukets beaches and same goes for koh phangan.

6. Don't smoke J's out in the open, my mate got done smoking a J on sunrise beach in koh phangan, spent 3 days in the local jail eating milk out of a plastic bag poked through the bars, cost him $1600 in bribes to get out, lucky sue from palita came to the rescue or he might have been in there from much longer.

7. Make sure you head over to the reggae bar on koh phangan , you will get acquainted with a bar tender called Mac, he repeats himself a lot but a cool dude none the less, and a cool place to chillout after a Thai massage.

8. Don't get blind and behave like an ass, Thai locals hate that and don't start any shit with Thai locals on sunrise beach ( drop in bar , cactus bar , mellow mountain) some of these bars are dangerous and I have seen fights break out between locals and they love bottling people over the head , tourists have been murdered and have disappeared, these bars are run by the local heavies and the law doesn't mean shit, if you behave you have nothing to worry about.

9.(personally I'm not into mushy shakes, vive seen my mates get pretty messy.) take it easy with the mushy shakes, pace yourself, remember some Thai dude it making the mix so you don't know how strong they are, drink half wait an see how you feel and then progress, usually during peak times like full moon and new year they make them weak otherwise there would a pile of bodies sprawled out on the rocks at the bottom of mellow mountain, people have been known to jump off the mountain coz they thought they had wings.

10. palita lodge sunrise beach, owned by sue, a bit pricey but very nice rooms great service from a family owned resort and the food is amazing, the tempura prawns are insane actually every dish on the menu is good, must try pad ka pow ( pork with basil), tom yum goong ( spicy sour soup with prawns), chicken with cashew nuts, spicy glass noodles, and when you stay over at samui you must try the grilled white snapper with Thai spices and lemon most places in samui have perfected this recipe, make sure yousend my regards to sue from Steve in Australia

11. If you like pina colada's then head over to mellow mountain or the cactus bar on sunrise beach koh phangan, best I have tasted in all of Thailand.

12. The staff at drop in bar and cactus bar usually have fire twirling and games in the evening like jump the burning rope and shooting basket ball hoops and you can win free drinks and buckets,

13. If you like shooting guns Samui and phuket have shooting ranges where you can shoot 9mm glock beretta's machine guns etc.... Bit pricey , around 4000 baht for 11 shots of a .357 magnum.

14. If you like shopping and you are staying in bangkok get in a taxi and tell the taxi driver to take you to pratunam ( sort of like platinum but with the accent)

15. Left the best for last, if you like progressive/psy trance and the rave scene you must head over to guys bar , its hidden away in a cove called Haad Tien not far from sunrise beach, but the only way to get there is with longtail boat just ask the locals on the beach, I'm pretty sure it was on Tuesday and Friday night and other special occasions, make sure you wear a life jacket don't take no for an answer insist and if they tell you the boat is safe tell them that's what they said about the titanic, just grab a life jacket and put it on coz the waves can get big, 2-3 meters certain times of the year especially when you round the point, wait for other tourist heading over to Haad Tien to make up enough numbers and to keep costs down otherwise you will get ripped for a boat ride with only 3-4 passengers, and don't forget to bring the 5-HTP coz you will definatly need it.

16. I know I have left out a lot more but I think I have mentioned all the really important stuff, and remember to have a great time, enjoyed what this beautiful country has to offer, root your brains out, be smart, stay safe and come home in one piece. ;-)

guys bar video

The old bloke at 1.25 with white sweat drenched shirt is part of the furniture at guys bar , i think he came for a holiday when he was 40 and just never went home.

I don't know if anyone still checks this part of the site. My girlfriend and I are flying out to Phuket in about 3 weeks. The blogs on here have really helped with what to expect and where to visit.

What's the deal with money. Should we just withdrawal money over there as we need it, get a prepaid type debit/travel card?

Take cash money, $100 AUD bills gets you the best rate at any of the exchange places over there.

If you take it out of ATMs as you go along you get slugged transfer/transaction charges each time, plus the rate of banks normally sucks a fat one.

So have as much AUD on us as possible? Seems a bit risky. Aren't there travel cards that don't slug you the fees?
