thats kind of how all clutch-based LSDs work though.

    Bump
  11. Enthusiast underwriting are pretty good. im over 30 but I just insured my evo X with them for $900. that was the cheapest quote by a longshot - next cheapest was shannons at $1509. full daily use/unlimited KMs, comprehensive coverage. For infrequent use vehicles/weekenders i would imagine you get a better rate. not sure if they cover under 25s.
  12. turbo really worth it

the 2871s are a shit turbo, GT or GTX. get a 2867 or 63.
  13. Does the ball bearing conversion make it spool up much quicker? For example will an ATR28SS2 ball bearing come on as quick an ATR28SS1.5 bush bearing? From memory I think there's a 300rpm difference between the two reaching full boost (20psi) in a bush bearing setup. Ball bearings are maybe 500rpm faster at the most.
  14. Why would you buy a turbo that you are not running at peak efficiency?
  15. dont buy a GT2871. they are a dogshit, old, mismatched turbo and the lag isnt worth it.
  16. Blitz FMIC kit comes with bracket to rotate the bottle out of the way. I like the idea of relocation to permit the use of oil cooler there instead though. any tips locky?
  17. Its worth mentioning that not all 180s are made equal. in my experience, 89-94 and 94-98s have slightly different wiring looms (the climate control units have different key ways on the harness) and other bits and pieces. a non vct blacktop shares A LOT of things with the red tops, but there is also stuff they dont. its always a good idea to buy something from the year model you own, just to be safe.
  18. you want a spring that suits the amount of boost you are running. if you set it too soft, it will be blown open by the boost raising, and you'll lose boost. if you set it too hard, it wont open fully.
  19. 1996 180sx type X - Wrecking $6K

not even talking about crash damage, but kind of worth pointing out that a 89 shell would probably have a lot more fatigue than a 96/97 shell. being driven hard on shit coilovers and nature taking its course (rust) i would be finding the youngest shell I could.
  20. I have mine fully tensioned. I get flutters at anything under 5PSI or if you back off really slowly. otherwise I just get the standard whooshing noise. Im fine with it and doesnt affect the tune at all.
  21. Even for China parts they're expensive compared to Hong Kong eBay/Alibaba sellers. Where they're good is when you desperately need the part 'today'. When I lived in the shire, there were many saturdays calling Just Jap from under my car requesting them to stay open 10 minutes extra so I could race in and get a silicone joiner/FMIC pipe/exhaust/gasket/etc
  22. scrubs on the inside and depending on incline, the outside catches in the tread grooves. castor plays a big part too as it moves the wheel further forward, closer to the guards.
  23. not to continue playing Devils advocate but I have a GKTech dump pipe, JJR front pipe, Venom Cat, X-force mid muffler and some custome blastpipess. its all stainless, its all china (barring the blastpipes and the cat) and it all fits with no issues and hasnt failed in 8 years. the only thing that did fail was the GKTech front pipe, because the flex joint hung so low and would constantly catch on shit.
  24. thats probably the only exception, though whether you'll see a gain over the old spec dump pipe is unknown.
