I recently installed an aftermarket pioneer single din headunit into my silvia. I bought the car with no radio so I had nothing to go from--

The CD player works, but when I try to listen to the radio on either am or fm, it is all static-

My first question: is there a specific wire that needs to be connected into the headunits wiring to get the radio to work?

My Antenna has been unplugged from the trunk and removed- would this be the problem? I also noticed the thick black wire that usually plugs into the back of the headunit for the antenna has been cut/ the metal plug piece is no longer there? Can I just buy on of these plugs and stick it on the end of the cut wire? Or is there a specific way it needs to be attached?

Without the metal plug on the thick cable in yhe headunit you wont get any reception... You can generally buy those plugs from jaycar or other car audio specialists.

I have my antenna unplugged in the boot and still get reception but you may need to plug it back in to ensure you have ticked all the boxes

I sometimes wonder whether threads like this are serious or not...

Yes, I do believe not having an antenna plugged in would usually cause you to have no reception. And antenna cable.

^well the guy above you just said that his antenna is unplugged and gets reception!

sorry for such a obvious question- but I would like to know the proper way to put a metal plug back onto the antenna cable?

radio sucks.

you want one of these, Jaycar will have them too

There is also a wire (Black/Red if I'm not mistaken) that controls the rear antenna going up/down - if you intend on plugging the antenna in that is..

^^^^^ its pretty easy to attatch one of those plugs onto the wire you just crimp it on and plug it in...

Going back to what i said it works in my car dont hold me to it working in yours it might get less reception than what it does plugged in.. Though i dont listen to the radio often so yeah

I was talking about the cable as well... I thought it would have been pretty obvious that you wouldn't get any radio without an antenna (regardless of if the external one is disconnected as the cable still acts as an internal one in a way as mentioned above) connected... It's like asking why my TV doesn't work without it being plugged into the power point.
